5/22/2008 - May 18th, 2008.......The high cost of being a charter captain !!!!!!!!!!!!!
"Boy, do I wish I had your job" "You have the life" "When I retire
I'm going to buy a boat and do this"..........Any charter captain who is
reading this update can testify to these phrases that our clients say.
But like any profession, there is a dark side to this dream job !!!!
For example, one of my May charter trips { Sorry guys I can't remember
who witnessed this story } The morning started out nice and peaceful.
Overcast weather, slight chop to the water. It looked like a great morning
for some steelhead trout fishing. About 25 minutes into the trip, a seagull
dipped down over our surface lures and picked up a green bomber, thinking
it was a alewive. The bird broke the fishing line, and was flopping around
with the stick bait in it's wing. We turned the boat around to rescue the
gull { actually to retreive my bomber } by the time we got close to the bird, it got the plug free and was flying away. Later in the morning, One
of the charter clients, leaned the landing net against the arch. A gust of
wind came out of nowhere and over the net went. Well, I said this is a offering to the fish Gods. And to finish the afternoon, we had some action
with rainbow trout. I was thinking to pull the Dipsy Rods, out of the water
when I turned to my starboard side, my Gold Eagleclaw dipsy rod and Diawa
linecounter reel was gone! No one aboard seen or heard anything.
So what I'm trying to say is this....What happened that day goes beyond
the norm. But when your planning your fishing career, don't forget that
somedays, you go to the bank....THEN THERE ARE THE DAYS WHEN YOU GO HOME,
AND ASK YOUR WIFE IF YOU CAN HAVE AN EARLY ALLOWANCE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
